Our Sustainability and Enercon champions, represented by Erick Calupe, Jolan Formalejo and Dave Opiso, were guests in the weekly “Konsyumer Atbp.” Program of DZMM Teleradyo aired live (both radio and CATV) last Saturday October 25. “Konsumer Atbp.”, is a consumer education program that aims to raise the consumer’s level of awareness and understanding in today’s constantly evolving Philippine trade and industry. The program was regularly hosted by Angelo Palmones but on that day Carl Balita took over the hosting chores together with regular co-host DTI Usec. Zeny Maglaya. For several weeks, the Program’s segment featured the SWITCH movement of the Dept. of Energy. SWITCH is a social mobilization movement that seeks to demonstrate how ordinary Filipinos and specific sectors of Philippine society can contribute substantively — through fundamental changes in lifestyle, behavior or standard practices — to the massive effort needed to address the dire consequences of climate change and high oil prices. SWITCH evolved as a result of the 2008 Energy Summit held last January 2008. Last Saturday’s episode delved on our experiences and programs in managing our energy consumption. Erick Calupe commenced by explaining the overall objective of managing our energy use, which is, to support and adhere to the vision of Ayala Land, Inc (ALI). for a sustainable development in all our managed communities. Dave Opiso continued by sharing several new technologies we use, through R&D initiatives, to lower our energy consumption. He mentioned about using oil additive in aircon refrigerant, the use of motor drives in variable speed application, and the replacement of fluorescent lamps by LEDs in car parks. He concluded that our efforts are recognized even by external agencies, such as the DOE through the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards and the ASEAN Energy Awards. Jolan Formalejo concluded that part of our program is to shift our paradigm about our energy use not only at work but at home as well. He elaborated the need to change our attitude in energy conservation which will eventually lead to preserving our environment.
